While instrument costs would normally be calculated by looking up rates from the project class/instrument class matrix as described in the introduction to calculating instrument costs, sometimes the rate will need to be specified for an individual project on one instrument. This is described as creating a "Special Cost".

Creating a new Special Cost

To create an individual rate, select "Edit special costs" from the "Edit Costs" page. After selecting "Create new project rate", you will be offered a list of projects and then a list of instruments for which you can create the special cost.

enter cost details
Enter cost details

The data required to create the special cost is the same as that required for the regular cost structure.

Editing and Viewing Special Costs

To view or edit an individual rate, select "Edit special costs" from the "Edit Costs" page.

select project
Existing rates

If there are any existing Special Costs, the projects for which they have been created will be displayed. Selecting one of these projects will give a list of instruments for which special costs have been defined. You can either view/edit the special cost by selecting the instrument or create a new special cost for that project.
